Yesterday the Copa Del Rey semi-final was not a one-sided show but a one-man show and it was not other than Karim Benzema. Benzema the Ballon d Or holder has pretty much shocked the world this week by scoring hattrick of goals consecutively in two matches one in Laliga against Valladolid and another against their El Classico rivals in Copa Del Rey.
Barcelona is considered to be one of the most defensively sold units this season after their performance and lead in the Laliga yet scoring a hattrick against this defense is not a joke and a reflection of how good a forward Benzema is and how big a threat he can be when you are on the other side. Barcelona won the first leg of the semi-final by a 1-0 margin in Benabue but Benzema's brilliance and the opener from Vinicius hands them a 4-0 loss at their much-celebrated home, Camp Nou. Benzema is the full package as a center forward any team would want to have. He possesses individual brilliance a big demand in cup competitions, intelligence to link up with teammates and create chances through the build-up, he drops deep to increase numbers in the midfield, is hard-working, and has an instinct for the goal.
Currently, Benzema has the highest number of goals and assists in Europe's top 5 leagues. Since the resumption of club football after the world cup he has scored 19 goals in 19 games. He is the 1st Real Madrid Player after Ference Puskas to score a hattrick in Camp Nou since 1963. This week he has made many records and there is a buzz in social media about whether he is the best no 9. of this generation or not.
After these results the presence of Benzema can make the opposition defence look vulnerable and may lose confidence. Already speculations have begun whether Real Madrid would take home the European Silvare ware this season too after the cup form Benzema, and Vinicius are in. Laliga may look like an unrealistic dream at this stage of the league for Benzema and Real Madrid but they have all the opportunity and upper hand of winning the Copa Del Rey and Champions League; and another Ballon d Or for Benzema.
