Mohun Bagan started their 2023/2024 Calcutta Football League campaign with a resounding victory against Patho Chakra. Calcutta Football League(CFL) is the state-level league for West Bengal. The 1st edition of the league was played in 1898. All Indian football enthusiasts know how much the relationship between Bengal and football culture has roots in India's & Bengal's history.
Mohun Bagan which was formed in 1889 is the shining example of it. IFA conducts the CFL the football association of the state of West Bengal.
Mohun Bagan who plays in the top tier of Indian football fielded their young reserve team filled with talented, skilled players. Mohun Bagan won the match with a 3-1 scoreline. Sumit Rathi opened the scoring for Mohun Bagan after his lopping header went in.
The second goal came after a calm and cool finish by another young talent Engson right from outside the 6-yard box. Taison Singh, the former India U-20 National team forward scored the 3rd one. The young guns were quite technically & tactically sound throughout the game.
These players will get the opportunity in the future to play in the senior team and represent India in international matches. The technical prowess of these players will surely make the National team even better than it is now, especially after everyone's expectations of the National team have increased after their blistering performance in the Inter-Continental Cup and SAFF championship with the current crop of best senior players available. These young talents need game time which we hope they will get from this season.
