Can Liverpool Still win the Premier League in 2023?

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

No doubt Liverpool has made a poor start of the season with Jurgen Klopp's side, Liverpool is currently sitting in 8th position below Chelsea and Manchester United, things have gone downhill as this Liverpool side was backed to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Everyone would consider Liverpool as the title contender, Their great performance last season saw them challenging for all four trophies in English and European top Football. They missed out on Premier League and the Champions League to Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Surely everyone thought the Liverpool squad had enough qualities to fight for the title for more years to come.

So What is going on with Liverpool?

Liverpool started their campaign with a draw with Fulham. The draw seemed nothing as previously many times Liverpool have started their campaign withdraw.

But the real shock came when they could register only 1 win in their last 5 games. After playing out a draw against Fulham Liverpool drew again with Crystal Palance, this time being in their Home. This was followed by a shock defeat to Manchester United. The United defeat came out to be the most shocking as manchester United themselves were struggling for Form at that time.

This was followed by a thrashing of Bournemouth at home with a scoreline of 9-0, One of the biggest Premier League win. It looked like Liverpool have started to gain their momentum back with their win against Newcastle, but they failed to score against their city rival Everton in a 0-0 draw.

After 6 games Liverpool managed to gain only 9 points, while their title rivals Manchester City had 17 points with 7 games played.

Is Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool magic over?

Jurgen Klopp has done a phenomenal job in rescuing Liverpool from the dead, The team looked as nowhere good as it is now 7 years ago. liverpool in that 2016 era was fighting for a Europa League spot with a league finish of 8th position.

Jurgen Klopp had quite a job to do when he took over the Liverpool job, fast forward 7 years now, and Liverpool has already played three Champions League finals winning one against Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool was also able to win the Premier League title in 2019 beating Manchester City.

Liverpool has been virtually challengers in every completion against Manchester City the only two teams who seemed to fight for Premier League, But the story has been quite opposite this season.

Is it Jugen Klopp Seven season curse hunting him again we saw this with FC Mainz where he took the team to Bundesliga but just after 3 years Mainz were relegated again, It was Jurgen Klopp's event season with Mainz, after completing his move to Dortmund he was able to take that team to Champions League final and clinched back to back Bundesliga titles, But again it all turned disastrous when Dortmund finished in 7th position leading to Klopp's departure from the club.

Liverpool is currently in its seven-season with Klopp, He has lost a star attacker of his team, Sadio Mane, to Bayern Munich the same way he lost his star striker Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich before that disastrous season for Dortmund.

Is Sadio Mane's Departure from Liverpool hurting the team?

Sadio Mane had been a prized possession of Jurgen Klopp, he was an attacker Klopp had the utmost faith in. But in the 2022 summer transfer Window, Sadio Mane completed his transfer from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, stating he wanted to experience a new challenge.

This is understandable after spending so many years in England.

But his departure left a solid hole in that Liverpool attack, Even though there are players who could replace him within that team, the likes of Luiz Diaz don't have the mental and physical characteristics of Mane which developed after playing for so many years in English top flight.

liverpool signed a star striker in Darwin Nunez for $100 Million from Benfica, but he has been unable to adapt to the Liverpool side as quickly as expected. Without Mane even Salah seems incomplete, he has endured a very poor run of form in front of goal this season with some poor performance during the start of the season
